The safety and wellbeing of every child at Gede Forest School is our highest priority.
At Gede Forest School, we are committed to creating a safe, nurturing environment where every child can learn, explore, and grow with confidence. Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility, and we take a proactive, whole-school approach to child protection.
Our safeguarding practices are informed by international best practice and adapted for our local context. All staff receive regular safeguarding training and are expected to uphold the highest standards of care.
We maintain a comprehensive child protection policy that is reviewed annually. All staff, volunteers, and visitors are required to read and follow this policy.
All staff undergo thorough background checks and reference verification before joining our team. We follow safer recruitment practices at every stage of the hiring process.
All team members receive safeguarding training during induction and regular refresher training throughout the year. Staff are trained to recognise signs of concern and know how to report them.
Our forest environment is risk-assessed regularly. We teach children to assess risks themselves as part of our forest school approach, building awareness and confidence in a managed way.
We encourage open communication between families and staff. Parents are welcome to raise any concerns at any time, and we take every concern seriously.
We promote responsible use of technology and educate children about staying safe online, appropriate to their age and stage.
If you have any safeguarding concerns about a child at Gede Forest School, please contact our Designated Safeguarding Lead immediately. All concerns are treated confidentially and taken seriously.
If you believe a child is in immediate danger, please contact the local authorities or emergency services directly. You can also reach out to Kenya's Child Helpline on 116 (toll-free).
If you have concerns about the conduct of a member of staff, you can report these directly to the Head of School or, if preferred, via email to safeguarding@gedeforestschool.com. All reports are handled with the utmost confidentiality.
